A closer look at the data

In a previous blog, we looked at the Top 3 Reasons an Open XDR Platform is the Best XDR. More than ever before, cybersecurity professionals want their vendors to deliver open, interoperable solutions. Let's dive a little deeper into the matter and review additional insights to understand why many companies are turning to open solutions built on an Extended Detection and Response (XDR) platform. Industry-wide data shows that:

  • There are only enough cybersecurity workers in the United States to fill 68% of the cybersecurity jobs that employers demand1.
  • 48% of small/midsized enterprises and 33% of large enterprises say their in-house security staff is overwhelmed by the number of security tools/layers to manage2.
  • Generally, we find that companies have already made important security investments and have an average of 15-40 security-oriented tools, and over 90% of IT professionals say tool integration is a top 5 priority as they build their security architecture3.

There is a growing need for companies to have an open platform that consolidates their security stack, lowers their overhead costs by reducing tool sprawl, and saves valuable time.

The Shift Towards XDR

When security analysts are swiveling between disconnected systems, it can take valuable time away from more important work, especially if those tools are creating noise and false positives. XDR solutions consolidate and alert on threats from across an organization's ecosystem, including endpoint, cloud, network, email, identity, and other systems. But not all XDR solutions are open, and some require customers to rely on one vendor for all their security needs. This may negatively impact productivity, reduce visibility and make it difficult to scale. Open XDR can be a better fit for organizations, especially ones that have already made security investments.

3 more reasons an open XDR platform is the right XDR:

  1. Save time and resources with intuitive investigation workflows and a single view across all platforms. It is important to find a cloud-native security platform that continuously interprets telemetry across your IT environment, applying advanced analytics to automatically prioritize and turn alerts into signals, helping your team respond to serious threats faster. With Secureworks Taegis™ XDR, you can empower your team by leveraging our expert SOC analysts in a way that best suits your needs.
  2. Reduce alerts and false positives and improve threat visibility and detection. It's important to find a platform that provides full coverage of large-scale networks, offering best-in-class detection accuracy with minimal false positives. Another relevant criterion, depending on your current needs and security resources, is to have access to a comprehensive 24/7 monitoring without visibility gaps to improve security efforts with more context, analytics, and log storage. Our own research at Secureworks has found that in 2022, nearly 99% of third-party vendor-produced high and critical alerts were noise, and not real incidents.
  3. Higher ROI. In our previous blog, we talked about cost savings, which of course plays a huge part in choosing the right vendor. It is equally important to do calculations to optimize your ROI and explore the detailed benefits, and risks of deploying a new platform in your organization. Identifying a vendor that offers fast deployment, rapid resolution, and high performance to help lower your operational costs is ideal. Many customers chose an MDR solution using XDR as their consolidated platform to generate higher value. Secureworks commissioned Forrester Consulting to conduct a Total Economic Impact™ Study**** looking at Taegis™ ManagedXDR. Forrester Consulting assessed the cost savings, productivity gains, and business benefits Secureworks users experience. The study found a potential ROI of 413% over three years for ManagedXDR customers, as well as other quantified and unquantified benefits.

What our customers say about us

Stagwell, a global marketing company, was looking for an MDR solution that could integrate with their existing environment. After several conversations with Secureworks, they found the partner they were looking for. “Not only [did] Secureworks [give] me the ability to talk to a SOC analyst and access built-in SIEM capabilities, they also integrated with most of our platforms and provided a quick and seamless onboarding process.”
