SecureWorks, named by the IT analyst firm Yankee Group as a "Market Leader" among Pure Managed Security Service Providers (PMSSPs), announced today that its network intrusion prevention appliance, iSensor® V5.3 has received the NSS Approved award. The NSS Group is the world's foremost independent security testing organization.

ATLANTA, Feb 6, 2006-–The iSensor® is the hardware appliance which enables SecureWorks' managed network intrusion prevention service. It is used to monitor Internet network traffic and prevent intrusions by filtering network packets.

"The iSensor® 850 performed consistently and completely reliably throughout our tests," said Bob Walder, Director of The NSS Group security testing labs. "Under eight hours of extended attack (comprising millions of exploits mixed with genuine traffic) it continued to block 100 per cent of attack traffic, whilst passing 99.999 per cent of legitimate traffic (an average of two legitimate sessions out of a total 300,000 were blocked)... Resistance to all evasion techniques was excellent and throughput and latency were excellent under all but the most extreme network loads."

"We chose to test with NSS because they maintain a stringent criteria for certification, and their ultimate goal is to ensure that the IT security systems tested are capable of fully protecting organizations and their end users," said Mike Cote, president and CEO of SecureWorks. "In order to receive NSS certification, security companies must have the ability to know how hackers attack, how they evade countermeasures, what techniques they are currently using, as well as the emerging trends coming out of the hacking community," continued Cote. "An IT security provider can only achieve this if they have a dedicated research team and development team, ones that possess the resources, knowledge, and expertise to protect organizations from the wide array of threats present on the Internet today. The NSS certification exemplifies the capabilities of the iSensor®, and we are honored to have received this award."

"The V5.3 version of the iSensor® was just launched in October 2005, and has been receiving excellent reviews from our clients and the industry analysts," said Jon Ramsey, SecureWorks CTO. "The NSS Approved award confirms the iSensor's robustness and ability to protect our clients' networks from the most malicious attacks and yet not impede their network traffic. This combination enables our clients to conduct business effectively and securely, everyone's ultimate goal."

NSS also found that the iSensor® offered good Distributed denial of service (DDOS) mitigation with minimal impact on throughput and latency. DDOS is an attack designed to consume all network and computing resources preventing an organization from serving its customers.
