What Role Should Threat Intelligence Play?

Knowing the threat is only part of the equation

In order to respond to the latest threats you need to know what those threats are.

One of the biggest areas of growth in the security industry in the last couple of years has been around threat intelligence. While many organisations will buy or subscribe to threat intelligence information, the real challenge is knowing how to integrate it into your people and processes.

In this video Chris Yule, SecureWorks Senior Principal Consultant, gives a quick overview into the importance of threat intelligence and the challenges of effective integration.

                TRANSCRIPT:

In order to respond to the latest threats you need to know what those threats are. One of the biggest areas of growth in the security industry in the last couple of years has been around threat intelligence. We're seeing organizations who've bought into threat intelligence that are struggling to know what to do with it. They've either bought product that they think will protect them or they've bought a heap of threat intelligence subscriptions that they don't know what to do with. We're working with a lot of organizations to help them build that capability into their people and processes where they can take that threat intelligence, analyze it to figure out what's really important to them and tailor the output of that to their business so they can really adapt their security and invest in all of the right areas to protect themselves properly.

We generate around 2 billion events each month. With Secureworks, we are able to crunch down that number to 20-30 high fidelity alerts — and that makes my team's job much easier.
