SecureWorks and NRECA Partner to Offer Discounted Information Security Services to All NRECA Members

ATLANTA, GA and ARLINGTON, VA, FEBRUARY 5, 2007. - The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) and SecureWorks have partnered to offer SecureWorks' information security services to NRECA's members at a discounted rate. With over 1,600 clients, SecureWorks is the largest managed security services provider safeguarding more utilities from cyber threats than any other vendor. This agreement gives NRECA members access to all of SecureWorks' managed security services at a 10 percent discount. SecureWorks is one of 60 organizations in NRECA's National Discount Program designed to provide pre-negotiated discounts with leading service providers.

SecureWorks has been an active member of NRECA since 2002 and currently protects over 80 NRECA members' networks. In 2006, SecureWorks protected over 100 utility clients from 89,000,000 cyber attacks.

"The daily amount of new and ongoing security threats is staggering," said Tim Peede, IT Manager for South River EMC and current client of SecureWorks. "It would be impossible for an IT staff, in a business of our size, to monitor and respond to all the threats on a real-time basis. I rely on SecureWorks to cover that flank 24x7x365, while we deal with the information technology which keeps our business running and enables us to serve our members."

With unparalleled visibility to the threat landscape, SecureWorks is in a unique position to detect emerging threats and to deploy countermeasures long before any client is impacted. In addition to protecting the perimeter of the network with Network Intrusion Prevention Services, SecureWorks can monitor virtually any device and will consolidate security event logs to protect clients from internal as well as external threats. As part of the managed security services offerings, SecureWorks also provides comprehensive and straight-forward board and examination reports – including reporting against the new CIP standards. These reports make it easy for any utility to demonstrate how their processes and procedures adhere to industry best practices without spending weeks gathering evidence. The combination of advanced technology, industry-leading threat visibility and expert team of security professionals make SecureWorks the clear choice for organizations seeking to enhance their security posture and improve compliance with industry regulations. For clients who require professional services as well, SecureWorks has a full complement of professional services offerings to assess risk, prepare for audits, perform penetration testing, etc.

NRECA has had a long time record of being the national voice for cooperative electric utilities. Since its inception in 1942, NRECA has been ahead of trends that affect electric co-ops, and network security has become a growing concern.

"We understand the CyberSecurity risks that are threatening utilities, both large and small," said Stephen R. Guth, Esq., executive director, Vendor Management Office. "We knew something needed to be done to help our members protect themselves against the very real cyber threats, and SecureWorks has proven that they are the right solution. SecureWorks has an excellent track record of providing educational offerings about security issues specific to the utilities industry, in addition to garnering a large number of satisfied utility clients. We are pleased to partner with SecureWorks, and we have confidence in their expertise and the services they provide."

NRECA members can receive a 10 percent discount on all of SecureWorks' managed security services including management and monitoring of firewalls, network and host intrusion prevention, vulnerability scanning, encrypted email and threat intelligence.
